TLC Summer Camp Highlights

We are running a summer camp for our school–aged before & afterschool friends! We provide a safe, fun, enriching summer experience, filled with wonders from our world that our awesome God has provided for us!

Our campers have already participated in our VBS program (wow!). We go to new playgrounds in our community every Thursday for a picnic & some playtime.  Every Tuesday we go to the Huntley Library to check out books & participate in the summer reading program. We swim as the weather permits at Stingray Bay.

We’ve already visited the Huntley Police Department, and have plans to visit The Challenger Space Center in Woodstock.  We will also be visiting Dr. Jane & Dr. Joe at the Huntley Veterinary Hospital, and the Randall Oaks petting zoo. We go to free movies on Wednesdays, and we are looking forward to going to the Huntley High School Drama Department production of the Jungle Book on July 10th!

Please pray for our State Legislature to pass a budget that includes funding for childcare in Illinois for needy families.  We have several families in our program.  They would be greatly affected if the funding is cut. This funding is for working parents, and enables them to continue working as they struggle to make ends meet in our suffering economy. Without the funding, many of them will have to quit their jobs, and get into the welfare system. Most of our DHS funded families are single parents, trying to scratch out a living after life’s circumstances have left them with financial challenges.

TLC Preschool & Before & After School Program may experience some changes in our budget due to cuts, but the vast majority of our kids are not state funded, so we won’t be greatly affected.  But there are centers all over Illinois that will have to close, because they serve a majority of families that are state funded. Please pray for the staff & families of these centers, who truly serve the poorest families.  These facilities are not getting rich off of the state, as some people have accused – the maximum reimbursement from the state is $2.37 per hour, and you can’t even hire a teenaged babysitter for twice that amount these days.

On a brighter note, please pray as we prepare for our upcoming school year! We continue to Shine Like Stars for Christ in our community, sharing the love that God has given us.

Peace & Joy,
Sue Hansen, Director
